It's almost 10pm (EDT) and the site is back online. Sorry for an inconvenience this may have caused. Since I'm not pursuing the film critic thing full-time right now -- I've got a different gig in a different city -- I'm pretty behind in my movie watching. Mostly, I wait for things to come out on DVD now and rent them. Occasionally I'll buy a DVD but mostly I rely on Netflix or Green Cine. And for the first time in many, many years, I have cable TV so I've been watching a lot of older films as well as TV programs. (Especially on BBC America). The great thing is that I'm getting to see older films I have in my rental queues but then I get backed up on watching the more recent stuff. Anyway -- I hope to continue to grow the site and that people will find it useful. Just a quick mention of the passing of two people, director Sydney Pollack who made several of my favorite films from the 70s and 80s, including JEREMIAH JOHNSON, THE WAY WE WERE, OUT OF AFRICA and TOOTSIE. He was a also a terrrific character actor and supportive producer and he will be missed. It's very sad considering that his producing partner was the late Anthony Minghella. Also wanted to note the passing of comedian Harvey Korman. While he is probably best remembered for his work on "The Carol Burnett Show" (many clips of which can be seen on You Tube), he also was a sterling supporting player in various film comedies, most notably BLAZING SADDLES and several other Mel Brooks' films. I grew up watching him on the Burnett show and watching a couple of the clips on You Tube brought back wonderful memories. R.I.P. to both of those talented men. 2008-06-02 01:51:32 GMT
