Entry for June 8, 2008
Apparently Yahoo was experiencing difficulties on June 8, so I have no idea when this entry will appear. Over the last couple of days I had to travel back home to NYC for a meeting and had a chance to catch up with some friends and actually go to a movie theater to see a flick. My pal Carolina wanted to see Prince Caspian so that's what we did. (I had seen the first installment on a DVD screener a couple of years ago and sort of enjoyed it). This second entry in an ongoing franchise was pretty good -- although it lacked some of the magic that the first one did. Mostly because the story was darker -- dealing with usurping a throne and there were a number of battles and deaths. The child actors were fine with little Georgie Henley being the best. Ben Barnes was passable in the title role -- he seemed a bit stiff in a couple of scenes. Sergio Castellitto playing the villainous King Miraz bordered on being a little over the top as well. (He did everything but twirl his mustache.) The battle scenes clearly owed much to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It was a pleasant enough evening and the few children who were in the house seemed to enjoy it. If I get a chance, I'll try to write a fuller review. My rating would be a B- (even though my friend has now seen it 3 times and wants to go back again.) 2008-06-08 23:34:32 GMT
